Ongelmia langattomassa Sparknet tietoliikenneverkossa.


2009 syksystä lähtien on havaittu Turun yliopiston Sparknet-verkossa toimintahäiriöitä. Ongelma on tiedossa ja sitä on tutkittu.

Ongelman suurin osatekijä on Windows Vistan ja uuden Windows seiskan oletuksena päällä olevan IPv6 tuki. Koska IPv6 ei ole yliopiston verkossa vielä ainakaan lähivuosina käytössä, sen aiheuttamat turha liikenne ja jatkuvat IPv6 broad- ja multicast kyselyt tukkivat SparkNet-verkkoa.

Turun yliopiston Sparknet-verkon rakennetta tullaan muuttamaan paremmin tällaisia häiriöitä sietäväksi mutta tämän työn valmistuminen vie kuitenkin aikaa.

Problems with wireless Spark Network.


During the autumn, there have been problems within University's Sparknet wireless network. The Computing Centre personnel are aware of this problem and it is being investigated.

The biggest partial factor of the problem is that newest Microsoft operating systems (Vista and Seven) have IP version 6 protocol (IPv6) enabled by default. As IPv6 is not at the present moment used in University's network, these operating systems are generating unnecessary datatraffic and IPv6 broad- and multicasts into the network.

University of Turku will alter the structure of wireless SparkNet to withstand better disturbances like this, but it will take quite some time and meanwhile the problem will persist.

It is suggested that users could help the problem by disable the IPv6 function from their laptops with these instructions.<http://www.cc.utu.fi/verkko/Vista_IPv6_en.pdf>
